Improvements to the Madrid System

Following-up on Cambodia's accession to the Madrid System for international trademark registration, the World Intellectual Property Organization has announced the first and second of several improvements, which will make it easier for trademark holders to manage their rights. Holders of international registrations can add or update their legal status (e.g. LLC, cooperative, corporation...) and territory of registration, with a simpler form. Second, WIPO has introduced a new rule to improve the certainty of renewal fee quotes. Online requests for renewal will be available three months prior to the expiry of the international trademark registration. After paying through the e-Renewal system, the request will not be affected by any subsequent changes in the Schedule of Fees. This means one can predict the cost of your renewal with greater accuracy and certainty.
